About

Many children are given coloring books and learn to color within the lines. Not in my family. We were given crayons and blank sheets of paper to see what would happen. At a very early age I discovered that I like to communicate with drawings. It became my life’s work. As a school-girl, I entered every poster contest, joined theater set design crews, and created logos for clubs and activities. For college, I chose Rhode Island School of Design, where I explored drawing, painting, photography, weaving, film animation, letterpress printing and book making and ultimately received a BFA in Graphic Design. Delivering design solutions for communications has been my focus ever since.

My work-life began in book publishing in Boston–first as an art editor for children’s reading textbooks at Houghton-Mifflin and then as a book designer at The MIT Press. This fortunate foundation opened my eyes to the vast applications of graphic design, as well as to the creative collaborations that make everything better. My experience broadened while working for design firms in New York and New England, encompassing brand design and development, print collateral and packaging design, product design and online communications. In the process, I have discovered that I thrive in collaborative relationships and really enjoy helping my clients express their vision through good design.

Of course, at heart, I am an artist.  I continue to express my personal hand through illustration, painting, and surface design, sometimes appearing in advertising materials or on products ranging from children’s toys to home goods—and sometimes appearing as paintings on gallery walls or in envelopes as greeting cards. For me, every surface is still the family kitchen table and a blank piece of paper to explore with the imagination.

I love to travel—near and far, and collect experiences visually through illustrated journals for inspiration in my work. I love smart humor.  I especially enjoy collaborating with people who appreciate art and design as much as I do.

Presently I am the sole proprietor of my own design business — Rebecca Daw / Visuals / Creative Strategy & Design, located is Portsmouth, NH.
